Project Scope

The scope for this project was to develop branding for and up-and-coming business, Con Amor. This is a small business that makes and sells traditional Mexican tea blends, herbal remedies, and baked goods. Con Amor lacked a brand identity. It needed a logo and packaging for each type of item sold. The goal of this project was to provide her with the graphics they needed to kick-start the business and to establish a unique visual identity.

Logo Sketches

The business owner’s passion for their culture led to their desire to create and share traditional recipes and practices. Their motto was “Con Amor”, which means “With Love”. Understanding the business owner's story and armed with my research on their target audience and brand, I started sketching. In studying their ingredients and traditional and ancient Mexican symbols and patterns, I discovered a basis for the logo: a dancing Mexican doll with a heart-shaped body and a jug pouring a splash of liquid that forms the doll's dress.

Come to find out, the owner used to be in a Folkloric dance group that the dancing doll symbolized, further solidifying that the logo represented the owner and their brand.

Packaging

The next step is my favorite, designing the packaging. I spent a lot of time researching traditional and ancient patterns. The design that I landed on blends the ancient with the traditional. There’s a temple outlined with an Aztec pattern, and papel picado patterns around the edges of the box. There are also Hibiscus flowers in the top corners, which are the owner's main ingredient for one of their products. The specific ingredients of this product are shown in this line art.
