Every year, Walla Walla University publishes a magazine for its School of Engineering. For the fall 2024 edition, I was the Layout Designer and ADA compliance editor. I was in charge of taking the written content and laying it out in a way that fit within the design language of the past editions while also looking fresh. This 16-page document had many moving parts that needed to be accounted for so the text could flow smoothly. I was also the ADA compliance editor for this project, which meant I was responsible for ensuring the PDF version of the magazine met all ADA compliance requirements, making it accessible. This job includes, but is not limited to, creating alt text, adding headings, checking color contrast, and adjusting the reading order for
screen readers.
